Feeding Time
The Safari Park Blair Drummond is a safe place for retired or misused animals from zoos and circuses. As teams we had to design innovative and creative solutions to keep the animals active and mentally stimulated by integrating the design into their feeding routine.
Our team Feed’em created a meat zipline for tigers, which is remote controlled and gives the keepers the freedom of adjusting speed, height, direction and the time of release of the food. The meat is clamped into the specifically designed tong outside of the enclosure and then speed up by the motor driven cart. A spindle with a rope can adjust the height of the food. If the tigers attacks, the tong releases automatically as soon as the meat is pulled to verify the animals safety.
The tiger zipline replicate how the tigers would feed in the wild, which is at the heart of the clients’ interests. It also has huge physical benefits to the animals, which would include fitness and strength. The zipline is aimed to provide the keepers with the tools to educate students and the general public about the animals which reside within the park.
Throughout this project, the group’s intent was to expand their knowledge and application of design tools such as InDesign and Photoshop, to improve skills in prototyping and CAD and to experience designing a product to a set specification. We had to develop Project Planning and Management skills as well as team skills and presentation skills in front of the client.
